Bloggers:
Margaret Sullivan:
Sullivan is the fifth public editor appointed by The New York Times.
I chose this blogger because I admire her hard work and the way she has accomplished many important positions. I like what she writes about since it is interesting and important. She writes about culture and media. She writes about topics such as healthcare, breast cancer, and the white house. She has a good sense of humor considering she names Edward Snowden Person of the Year. When reading her you are able to laugh but her stories are thought provoking.

Cathy Horyn:
Horyn is an American fashion journalist, working as a fashion critic for the New York Times where she also keeps a highly noted and provocative blog called On The Runway. I chose this blogger because I like reading about and looking at pictures of the newest fashion trends and designs that are being made in New York. I want to learn about real fashion designers in the world.

Molhem Barakat is a photo journalist posting pictures in Syria. Catching the front line action with the rebels, he photographs some the best action shot of real war. With a food crisis forming in Syria his pictures will only grow more interesting and deep with content.

Andrew Burton is a photographer embedded with troops in Afghanistan. He covers the worst of the action and simple beautiful moments like soldiers making bubble gum. As he works with me is interesting style covers the best and the worst of what there is to see.

1)Kate Torgovnick writes and blogs about various topics on TED.com. These topics include: news, music, environment, culture, and global issues. Her work has appeared in The New York Times, News Week, and Time.com. I chose this blogger because people who participate in TED talk events spark my interest with their innovative ideas and different perspectives,

2)Thu-Huong Ha is a TED.com's editorial projects specialist. Her blogs are more serious in the sense that she blogs about health, news, and global issues. Her recent blog was about the lack of mental health polices. considering the fact that 1 out 4 four people experience mental health issues.

Jennifer Preston is a reporter for The New York Times, covering the intersection of social media, politics, government, business and real life. She took on the new beat in January 2011 after working as the newsroom’s first Social Media Editor, helping her fellow journalists use social media for reporting, real-time publishing and building community.

The Lede is a blog that remixes national and international news stories, adding information gleaned from the Web or gathered through original reporting to supplement articles in The New York Times and draw readers in to the global conversation about the news taking place online.

Dana Milbank writes about political theater in the nation’s capital. He joined The Post as a political reporter in 2000, after two years as a senior editor of The New Republic and eight years with the Wall Street Journal. One of his weirder aspects during presidential election years is to support the best candidate not on the ballot, allowing him to comment on policy without committing to a candidate.

Paul Krugman is a Nobel Laureate from Princeton University who writes a column for the New York Times on economic policy and international trade. He typically writes from a liberal perspective, often inviting debate. He writes with an academic style, tying in both real life examples and academic studies.

Randy Harvey is a sports columnist for the Houston Chronicle, but he also frequently blogs about the Texans. He started off writing beats for the Lakers, but his specialty is in football. He has covered 12 super bowls. He spent three years as an editor and 30 years total on the Los Angeles Times before deciding to go back to writing about sports for the Houston Chronicle.

Harvey's writing style is a combination of informative, tongue-and-and cheek, and opinionated with a lot of very evident football knowledge. He slips in clever lines covering his opinion, but also has a very intelligent and analytical eye for the game. His opinions are mostly one sided, not falling in the middle of a debate very often. His years of sports and writing experience has made him a very well rounded journalist for the Houston Texans.

Mick LaSalle is a film critic and entertainment blogger for the Houston Column. He shares his opinions on movies, but also blogs about the latest film news. This is not similar to "tabloid" journalism. He covers important, researched news, and infuses it with his years of experience as a critic. His style is more succinct than I expected, but still informed and entertaining.

The Z report by Lance Zierlein is a weekly blog written by a sports writer for the Houston Chronicle. He updates the Houston area weekly on the rumors and stories of sports. He was the first person in Houston to find out that Dwight Howard was coming to the Rockets. I love his blogs because besides being informative, as you read his stories you get a glimpse of what could happen in the future.

The movie blog by  Andrea Lestrange is the weekly blog for upcoming movies. Lestrange gives insight on movie trailers and possible casting in upcoming films. She is one of my favorite bloggers due to her witty style of writing, while maintaining an area of seriousness when it comes to some flicks.

I will be following Alison Cook from the Houston Chronicle covers many restaurant reviews. She will typically discuss a specific dish from a restaurant.

Dana Guthrie writes the Fashion Diaries blog for the Houston Chronicle. She often posts slide shows of pictures with her thoughts on fashion trends. 2. Dana Thompson writes a blog called Newswatch for The Houston Chronicle website.  She is the Homepage producer for Chron.com and copy editor for The Houston Chronicle. Thompson posts about minor news that would not always be covered right away in the paper.

Steve Kenny is a writer for the New York Times' political blog The Caucus. He writes with a serious, objective tone. I have seen a similar writing style to Kenny's in other political news sites and blogs, and I find Kenny to be a good political writer. In a very short article concerning the confirmation of the new Homeland Security secretary, Kenny provides ample background information to aid the reader. He remains neutral in his examinations of the new secretary, the present, and the new change in filibuster rules.

Eric Berger is the Houston Chronicle's SciGuy, blogging about current events in the scientific community (especially aeronautics/space). NASA (unlike something like a cabinet department) and science in general are not hotly politicized, so Berger can pursue a less serious tone in his writing than Kenny. In a new Kent State University study suggesting heavy cell phone users have worse grades and less happiness than lighter cell phone users, Berger even uses the first and second person. Except in an op-ed piece, use of the first or second person in political coverage is rare. I enjoy SciGuy for its humor and the clear love of science Berger shows through his writing.

Sharon Chapman is one of the Austin American-Statesman's entertainment editors, coordinating coverage of the music and food scenes. She also writes about being a pet owner in Central Texas. She commonly writes about the music scene in Austin and the kinds of bands that play around the city. I read a story that she wrote about the line-up for the trail of lights performers and the availability of tickets for the event.

Stephanie Strom writes about mostly food related topics whether it be the price of foods or the healthfulness of the foods in our supermarket. I read a story she wrote about a teen that went around town buying chickens to see whether they were getting more for the kosher chickens as they are more expensive, or if they are exactly the same as the regular chickens.

I read their article about a craigslist murdered who lured many people to their deaths by offering them jobs.

Another New York Times blogger, Richard Pérez-Peña, blogs mainly about schools, education, and student’s political and social views. I read his blog about community college students having a chance at ambition, and he defined it through the idea that there is a new movement to make it easier for the top ranking students at community colleges to get into grad school.

  1. Betwa Sharma is apart of the NYT blogs in their category India Ink. She tends to cover human rights in India (which is so closely linked to politics), but recently she has been extensively covering the courts' coverage of gang rape cases and the failings of the Indian judicial system. She has a track record of covering mainly human rights and also works for the Huffington Post. In her latest blog for the NYT, she explores whether India is truly safe for women.
  2. Vaibhav Vats is also a NYT blogger in their category India Ink. Rather than cover human rights specifically, he covers politics and how rampant corruption hasn't been eliminated from all forms of the Indian government. For example, he wrote a blog that related politics to Cricket, a popular sport in India. Actually, his blog does have a lot of cricket in it as well...He even wrote a book about his travels through India during cricket season. He studied in Colombia (journalism), although he was schooled in India for his bachelors degree.
