No, this is not a joke; although that’s exactly what the boy’s father, Joe Paris,
believed when he learned about the case. He told his local news station (KRCA)
that now, he simply considers it absurd.
This view was most likely reinforced
when he saw his bill--the Paris family has already spent $4,000 in legal fees, despite
not having yet entered a courtroom.
Beck is now in a wheelchair, and will continue to recover from
his condition for an approximated 6 months (http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/surgery-for-an-achilles-tendon-rupture). His
lawyer Gene Goldsman believes that this is valid reason for legal action. (http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/oddnews/little-league-coach-suing-his-14-year-old-player-for--600k-after-errant-helmet-toss-215953831.html)
“I don't think the boy meant to harm him,”
Goldsman told Yahoo.” But, this wasn't a part of the game. A guy who volunteers
his time to coach should not be subjected to someone who throws a helmet in the
manner that he did. What the kid did, it crossed the line”.
